Preparing for Big Results with Micro-Botox®
Expert Micro-Botox® Treatment in Hamilton, Ontario
Micro-Botox® is a refined, advanced version of traditional Botox® designed to improve skin texture, pore size, oiliness, redness, fine lines, and early laxity—without freezing facial movement. At DRS Skincare in Hamilton, Ontario, micro-Botox® (also known as mesobotox or baby Botox) is carefully diluted and injected into the superficial layers of the skin using precise facial mapping techniques.
This technique is commonly used to address:
- Crepey skin and early skin laxity
- Fine lines and skin texture irregularities
- Enlarged pores and excess oil production
- Vascular rosacea and facial redness
- Early jowling and lower-face laxity
Proper preparation before your micro-Botox® treatment plays a key role in optimizing results, minimizing side effects, and ensuring a smooth and comfortable experience.

How Should I Prepare for Micro-Botox® Treatment?
Before your appointment, carefully review any pre-treatment instructions provided by our medical team. If you are unsure whether to stop or continue a medication or skincare product, please contact us in advance—we’re happy to guide you.
Clear communication and preparation help:
- Reduce bruising and swelling
- Improve product distribution in the skin
- Enhance treatment comfort
- Optimize aesthetic outcomes
What Medications and Supplements Should I Avoid Before Micro-Botox®?
To reduce bruising and bleeding at injection sites, avoid non-essential blood-thinning medications and supplements unless prescribed by your physician.
Common Products to Pause (With Medical Approval) include:
- Aspirin
- Ibuprofen (Advil®)
- Naproxen (Aleve®)
- Vitamin E
- Fish oil / omega-3 supplements
- Ginkgo biloba
- St. John’s Wort
If you are on prescription blood thinners, consult your GP or prescribing physician before proceeding with treatment.
Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before treatment, as it increases the risk of bruising.

Should I Avoid Caffeine Before Micro-Botox®?
Yes—limit caffeine intake on the day of treatment. While caffeine does not thin the blood, it can:
- Raise blood pressure
- Increase anxiety and skin sensitivity
- Worsen bruising or headaches
Hydration is key. We encourage drinking plenty of water before your appointment.
Why Do These Medications Affect Micro-Botox® Results?
Blood-thinning medications and supplements increase the likelihood of:
- Injection-site bruising
- Swelling
- Bleeding
- Uneven product distribution
Our team will advise you on when it’s safe to resume these products after treatment. If pain relief is needed, acetaminophen (Tylenol®) is typically recommended instead of NSAIDs.
What Skincare Products Should I Avoid Before Micro-Botox®?
Many popular “anti-aging” skincare products should be stopped 24–72 hours before treatment, as they can irritate the skin and interfere with results.
Avoid products containing:
- Retinol or retinoids
- Glycolic acid or other AHAs
- Salicylic acid (BHAs)
- Benzoyl peroxide
- High-concentration vitamin C
These active ingredients can:
- Increase skin sensitivity
- Promote bruising and swelling
- Disrupt the skin barrier and microbiome
- Affect how diluted Botox® settles in the skin
Stick to gentle cleansers and bland moisturizers in the days leading up to treatment.
For optimal results:
- Wear loose, comfortable clothing that is not restrictive
- Avoid full-face makeup—treatment areas must be thoroughly cleansed
- Allow extra time before and after your appointment to unwind
To ensure your comfort, a topical anesthetic is applied prior to treatment. Before injections, your skin will be carefully cleansed to minimize the risk of infection and other complications, ensuring a safe and precise micro-Botox® application.
