Skinvive™ by Juvéderm®: Prepare to revive your skin’s natural glow, softness, and more
As the first-ever Hyaluronic Acid-based microdroplet filler of its kind, Skinvive™ by Juvéderm® is associated with minimal risks of severe side effects and of “overfilled” or unnatural results. This innovative filler and process are all about supporting subtle, refined, and elegant results. With all of this being said, that doesn’t mean your pre-treatment care should go on “autopilot.” It is always essential to follow instructions when preparing for any treatment at DRS Skincare in Hamilton, Ontario, regardless of how straightforward and safe the product, technology, or procedure may be.
Why is it so important to follow these instructions?
Certain conditions, medications, supplements, procedures, skincare products, and habits or behaviours can increase your risk of side effects, such as prolonged and/or severe swelling, bruising, irritation, infection, and cold sore flare-ups. By taking our precautions, you also help to support a better recovery and healing process, as well as a more comfortable treatment experience, as what you eat and drink in the hours up to treatment can either help or hinder how your skin absorbs the HA and even how sensitive your skin may be during treatment.

What conditions can affect my treatment?
During your consultation, it’s important to tell us if you:
- Are undergoing therapies to decrease your body’s immune response
- Have a history of cold sores
- Are prone to thick, hard scars
- Have a pigmentation disorder
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
Depending on what you tell us, we may recommend alternatives to Skinvive™ treatment or discuss delaying treatment as needed.
What medications should I stop taking?
Any medications and supplements that thin the blood are generally ill-advised. You should only discontinue or adjust those medically necessary drugs when it is safe to do so. You should tell us if you take aspirin, naproxen, ibuprofen, Vitamin E, gingko biloba, St. John’s Wort, and fish oil, as they are associated with an increased risk of injection-site bleeding and bruising.
Do I need to rethink my skincare routine?
You might! It all depends on the products that you currently use. Products formulated with harsh or potent ingredients (think: retinoids and acids) should be avoided before treatment. We can advise on when to add them back into your regimen. It’s also important to avoid scheduling other cosmetic treatments too close to your Skinvive™ appointment, as this can increase your risk of inflammation at the treatment site.
What can I expect right before my treatment?
To support optimal results, recovery, and treatment experience, eat a nutritious, well-balanced meal on the day of your appointment. Do not smoke or vape. Avoid alcohol. Consume lots of water instead. Arrive at DRS Skincare with a clean, makeup-free face (no lotion or other products). While Skinvive™ is formulated with lidocaine, we may apply a topical numbing cream before treatment starts.
In partnership with our team in Hamilton, ON, you can revive your skin’s natural radiance, smoothness, and hydration without the risk. Phone (905) 524-1712 to request your consultation today.
