The unique skin tightening, wrinkle softening power of Hyperdilute Radiesse®

Hyperdilute Radiesse® is a twist on the collagen-stimulating filler that patients and dermatologists know and love. The original Radiesse® was first approved by Health Canada in 2005. Since then, providers like our own Board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Rahul Shukla of drs skincare in Hamilton, Ontario, have applied a diluted form of Radiesse® to naturally tighten and smooth saggy, wrinkled, crepey, and scarred skin.

A new Radiesse® at drs skincare

The unaltered, non-diluted form of Radiesse® available at our Hamilton, Ontario office is generally made from CaHa – the calcium hydroxylapatite similar to minerals naturally present in the body. Due to the nature of CaHA, as the filler is absorbed by the body, it stimulates the production of fresh collagen to firm and plump up the skin. It is a particularly long-lasting filler appropriate for areas of volume loss, such as “pre-jowl” folds and severe smile and marionette lines around the nose and mouth.

The diluted form of Radiesse® is simply prepared by introducing saline or lidocaine. This step dilutes the filler by a ratio of at least 1:2 and is referred to as “Hyperdilute” Radiesse®. This variation is particularly good at improving:

  • Dry, leathery, and otherwise poor skin texture
  • Laxity or a loss of elasticity (saggy, loose skin)
  • Fine wrinkles
  • Crepey skin
  • Scarring (such as from previous acne outbreaks)
  • Dimpling associated with cellulite

In scientific studies, the CaHa particles reportedly stimulated the growth of fibroblasts, those cells that provide structural support to our skin and support wound healing. Additionally, both fully-concentrated and hyper-diluted CaHa particles in Radiesse® contributed to increased springy elastin, firming collagen, and blood vessels. These unique properties directly contribute to improved texture and overall enhanced skin quality.

Its diluted and hyper-diluted forms may be appropriate for the face, neck, and other parts of the body, particularly those areas that have sustained damage due to solar elastosis – a process of collagen and elastin breakdown caused by chronic sun exposure.

It may be injected with or without a numbing anesthetic (as some types of Radiesse® are formulated with lidocaine). The specific technique used to inject the filler depends on factors such as the condition being treated and its severity. By reducing filler thickness, Dr. Shukla also gets a more even spread, which helps to bolster skin stimulation via heightened contact between the filler and tissues. Effects like bruising and swelling at the injection site can occur. But they typically disappear within a week.

We are confident you are curious about this innovative twist on beloved Radiesse®! And we encourage you to phone drs skincare at (905) 524-1712 with questions and to schedule your consultation with Dr. Shukla at our office in Hamilton, ON.
