What is microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, uses a device with very fine needles to make tiny punctures in the skin which stimulates the growth of collagen and elastin. As these substances help heal the skin, it also improves the skin’s texture and firmness, and provides a more youthful appearance.
Microneedling also creates micro channels in the skin that allow topical gels, creams and serums to be absorbed more effectively, enhancing the effects in deeper layers of the skin. Often, we combine microneedling with serums that contain hyaluronic acid or vitamins to provide even better results.
Microneedling can also be combined with PRP, which is commonly referred to as the “Vampire facial”. PRP is a substance found in our blood that contains growth hormones that stimulate the growth of new tissue. It helps to repair wounds and promotes healing. The PRP is applied following microneedling, which speeds the healing process and improves the results. Because PRP is made from a patient’s own blood, there is little chance of side effects.
What are the benefits
Patients often experience a reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, pore size, improved skin tone and texture. It can also improve the appearance of uneven skin tone, acne scars, traumatic scars and stretch marks.
