We are privileged to be members of the greater Stoney Creek, Ontario community. And, just as our area is a destination for tourists and transplants alike, we want to be your destination for exceptional and comprehensive dermatological and multidisciplinary services.
Conveniently housed in Hamilton, drs skincare is led by a Board-certified dermatologist, Dr. Rahul Shukla, and joined by plastic surgeon, Dr. Jennifer Chuback. Our skincare specialists’ expertise in dermatological treatments is further complemented by our in-house rheumatologist, Dr. Eva Kovacs.
Rheumatology is often at the intersection of autoimmune disease and dermatology; conditions like lupus and psoriatic arthritis can manifest and are associated with skin complications and problems. So, in addition to our capacity to identify and treat 3,000-plus conditions affecting the skin, hair, and nails, our dermatologists can also lean into the expertise of our rheumatologist to address problems at the source and optimally manage conditions – for better health and a renewed outlook on life.
As indicated, not every practice in our community, province, and beyond is equipped to offer the depth and breadth of services available at drs skincare. Below, we have isolated just a few of the most common conditions treated by our specialists.
Contrary to what you may have been told as a child, acne is not caused by poor hygiene, nor is there a proven link between acne and greasy foods like pizza and French fries. You may also have the misfortune of knowing that this condition is not limited to teens.
However, the pimples, spots, and bumps are rooted in hair follicles that become plugged up with oil and dead skin cells. If you have exhausted OTC products, our team may recommend topical or prescription medications that actually work and go beyond marketing hype. Some drugs may be safely used in conjunction with powerful resurfacing and other nonsurgical procedures. Laser-assisted therapies, for instance, also work to soften or eliminate a complication of past acne outbreaks: scarring.
Also known as atopic dermatitis, this condition, frequently characterized by redness and itching, tops many lists of “most common skin conditions.” While the cause of eczema remains a mystery, the disease is thought to have a genetic component. Immune system dysfunction and environmental and bacterial factors are associated with eczema. Since there are so many potential causes and risk factors, treatment depends on the specific nature of your eczema. We may recommend medications designed to ease itching, inflammation, and infections.
In this case, light may also be used to relieve symptoms and prevent potential complications. Controlled amounts of a specific type of light can be delivered to boost the production of Vitamin D and its anti-bacterial/anti-inflammatory properties, among other therapies and procedures available at our office.
Depending on your type of psoriasis, the skin may be itchy and scaly. Psoriatic arthritis can even cause swollen, painful joints. Generally, psoriasis occurs when too many skin cells are made and build up rapidly on the skin’s surface. Here again, treatments such as phototherapy or lasers can be of benefit. Topical steroids and other prescription medications may also be in your future.
Don’t “sit” on your concerns. Schedule a consultation at our Stoney Creek, ON area office. Phone drs skincare of Hamilton at (905) 524-1712 today.
